Chittagong, Oct 1 (bdnews24.com)-- Police have detained 26 workers of shipbuilders Western Marine Shipyard in connection with Sunday's attack on Hindu-Buddhist temples in Patia, off Chittagong, prompting the company management to stop work for a day.
"The holiday has been declared in the wake of the situation arising out of the arrest of our 26 workers for their alleged involvement in the attacks on Hindu and Buddhist temples," Western Marine Shipyard Managing Director Mohammad Shawakat Hossain told bdnews24.com.
He said the overall condition would be discussed at a meeting of the Board of Directors at night.
"I hope normal operations of the company will resume from tomorrow (Tuesday)," he added.
Patia Police Station Officer in Charge Aminur Rashid told bdnews24.com the arrests had been made from the Western Marine Shipyard at Lakhara in the upazila.
According to the OC, the shipyard's CCTV footage confirmed the workers' involvement in the hate attacks.
Many of the arrested also confessed to their crime, he added.
A Buddhist temple at Lakhara was attacked and set on fire by a mob of several hundred people who came in a procession around noon.
Later, they attacked Buddhist and Hindu temples in adjoining Kolagaon and Jele Para.
